Artificial Intelligence for Accessibility: Visual Description Series

Engineers, artists, and other professionals who work with complex visual information have had a hard time getting comprehensive alternative text generated. While building a system, I'm testing it on things I personally love - and sharing them!

All graphics are at the maximum available resolution (to my knowedge), all are paired with at least one description from the AI, and all text from here forward was written by the AI as well. For information about testing it yourself, contact through patreon.com/lukeslp.

Tips appreciated, these do take a bit of time to hunt down and process - but no worries if not, just leave the price at zero!

Generated Description:

The Carta Marina by Olaus Magnus is a map of immense historical and cultural significance. Envisioned in 1539 and published in Rome in 1572 by Antoine Lafréry, it is one of the earliest attempts at cartographically representing the Scandinavian peninsula with a notable level of accuracy and detail. This map is much more than a geographical document; it is a visual encyclopedia of the era's worldview. It is embellished with intricate illustrations that bring to life the maritime myths and legends of the Northern seas, featuring a variety of sea monsters that were believed to inhabit the ocean at the time. The land is dotted with depictions of the inhabitants and their activities, animals, and notable topographical features, capturing the imagination and the reality of life in the 16th century.
